All right...the last post was long and boring. Sorry. It was just a one of the bright lights in my life that I got to share with my friends and my children that were standing by watching. This post will be much shorter. :)
We get to the last game after having lost the first game and feeling like we lost the second game...and together as a team and with a lot of courage by Ed Pesta, won the second game. I prayed to God. I did not want to lose the third game. But who does God favor in sporting events? Often I am dumbstruck with that question. Often I am left with the feeling that God favors the other guy. This is because of my history of second place finishes. It is mostly my own fault. I confess I like to see the joy on other people's face, but not at the expense of my own team mates. That hurts. On a one to one basis, or in cards, or pool, I can care less wheter I win or lose. I give up very easily. It is a very bad tendency of mine not to care or almost want to bring joy to the other party and let them win. But, I wanted to win. I needed to feel like a winner. I prayed to God to win. He must have heard.
My first ball planted firmly in the pocket...Strike. Jeannie followed...Strike. Leigh and Ed marked.... Just for Fun, the other team got off to a horrible start. I believe everyone opened except the anchor bowler Tom F. In the Second Frame I struck again, Jeannie struck again....Leigh marked and Ed marked. When I got my second strike....I got a little loud. I have a certain gift or rather ability to be their loudest person wherever or whenever I want to be. Well I turned it on. When Jeannie got her second strike....it was all over. I just got louder. There was no stopping our team after that. We became very loud and that became our biggest ally. Jeannie shot a great game and I managed to get 5 strikes in a row, 4 or them were from the Brookly side but if my ball hit the head pin, everything was falling! Perhaps it had a small demoralizing effect on the other team. They were all struggling just to mark. God was shinging on us.
In the final couple of frames it appeared that the other team could give us a run for our money...but they had to strike out. It never happened. My hats off to “Just for Fun“. They have been a great team for us to compete against all year. I am sure our backs are in their targets for next year. We had a lot of fun in this league this year and I look forward to coming back and seeing everyone next year. It was great to capture first place. I hope nobody took it too seriously and I look forward to seeing everyone next year. (This is why I am the PR guy...) (My othercomrades on my team feel they didn't join this lague to make friends and bascially tell everyone.... “We came, We Killed, We Conquered!“) We do not make many friends with that attitude....but it is funny.
One of the things I carried with me that is a constant reminder is that there is no “I in TEAM”. Yeah, that old saying. It is so true. Without any one component of our team, we would never have finished in first place. We did it together. At different times during the season a different person would take a turn and rise up and bowl well to help win a game. There were no single individual efforts that we could point out, it was a team effort for a team First Place Finish.
